Barecost is a product in development. Right now this site does one thing: it collects an email address from people who want to know when it launches. This page explains exactly what that involves.
Who is responsible
Barecost is operated by an individual sole trader based in the United States. For any question about your data, or to have it deleted, email contact@barecost.com and you will get a reply from a person.

That is the complete list. We do not collect your name, your location, your IP address for analytics, or anything about you from other sites. Our own measurement is first-party. Third-party tags are covered under Advertising and Analytics below, and none of them load unless you allow measurement.
Consent, and what happens if you decline
The banner asks one question. If you decline, no identifier is written to your browser and no measurement event is sent, the page simply works. If you had previously allowed it and change your mind, declining also deletes the identifier already stored.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, or by emailing us.
Advertising
We advertise on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). Meta's measurement pixel is installed on this site. It loads only after you have allowed measurement, never before, if you decline, or have not yet answered the banner, Meta's script is never fetched, so Meta is not told you were here at all.
When it does load, it tells Meta which pages you viewed on this site, so we can show ads to people who have visited and measure whether those ads worked. Meta's own handling of that is covered by Meta's privacy policy.
We deliberately leave out the no-JavaScript fallback image Meta supplies, because it cannot be held back until you have consented.
Analytics
Google Analytics is installed on this site, on exactly the same terms as the pixel above: it loads only after you have allowed measurement, and if you decline, Google's script is never fetched. It tells us which pages are read and which are not, so we can make the site clearer. Google's own handling of that is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Our own first-party measurement, listed in the table above, runs alongside it and stays on our own server.
We may add Google Ads measurement later, on the same terms, behind the same consent, or not at all. This page will name it before it is switched on.
Where your data goes
Your email and any measurement events are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Railway in the United States. Nobody else has access to it. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
If you are in the UK or EU, this means your data is transferred to the United States. We rely on your consent for that transfer, and you can withdraw it by asking us to delete your data.
How long we keep it
Your email is kept until Barecost launches and you have been told, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. If the product is abandoned, the list is deleted. Measurement events are kept for twelve months.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU, the GDPR gives you the right to get a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how it is used, object to its use, and take it elsewhere. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you similar rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
In practice, all of these come down to one email address: contact@barecost.com. We will action any request within 30 days. You will not be asked why.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority, in the UK that is the ICO.
The only email you will get is a launch announcement, and occasional short updates about building Barecost. Every one has an unsubscribe link. We will not send you anything else, and we will not pass your address to another sender.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this page changes materially before launch, anyone already on the list will be told by email rather than expected to notice.
This notice is written in plain language on purpose. It is a genuine description of what the site does, not a template, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it will be replaced with a reviewed version before Barecost takes payment.
